Hey guys,

I have a D6C (powershift) that had a winch on it at one point in time, the rear end is bare right now, but the controls are still there and I see that the pump is hanging up in there still (disconnected of course).  Has anyone put a ripper on the back of one of these machines and if so what did you use for controls and a pump ?  Is the pump that was used for the winch big enough to run a ripper ?  Im assuming id have to change out the winch levers and put a spool valve of some type on.

Appreciate the insight.

Hi, Xtremist.
Does your D6C have a hydraulic dozer blade or at least the hydraulic tank in front of the firewall and the hydraulic pump that goes with that tank? Rippers on these machines were commonly powered by the same hydraulics that operated the dozer blade.

There were also several different series of D6C. The serial number of yours would help people here to better assist you, as would some photos of what you currently have.

Yep it has a hydraulic dozer with power tilts as well.  serial number is 69J2622, here are a few pictures.

Hi, Xtremist.
Unless I am mistooken, that machine would have come with 3 valves in the tank, blade, ripper and tilt. You don't appear to have the control lever and linkage for the ripper which was usually a second lever below the blade control.

This cat was setup with a winch at one point, it has the aux pump that would have controlled the winch as well as the winch controls but there are only 2 external linkages from the tank, blade lift and blade tilt...

Can anyone tell me if it is a closed or open center hydraulic system on this machine ?

Open centre. You will need to install an external valve. There is two valves installed in the tank. There will be a port somewhere blanked off in the tank for power beyond and then the return line will also need a port and probably something inside the tank blanked off. It is not going to be an easy job. Might be easiest just to install a diverter valve on the tilt line.
