Hello all, My D6 10K has developed a leak from around where the starter bolts on. I know that these have a wet bell housing but I wanted to get opinions on what to do next. It just weeps oil and runs down the flywheel housing. It's not pouring out just weeping. I checked my parts book but I could not find an o ring or a gasket for the starter listed. Maybe I missed it. It's not bogging down like when the housing gets flooded but I do have to add tranny oil occasionally. Also, I rebuilt the decelerator but when I press it the throttle goes right to idle. I'm not sure what's wrong there but do you guys think that it is hard on the machine to just run it at half throttle and use it that way?

Thanks, Randy

Do a drain check on the converter and clean out the screen in the bottom of the converter housing, its not clearing the oil fast enough.

Hi Randy,
my D6C 69J (Mitsubishi Built) book shows the starter mount gasket is P/No 4H7869. It is shown separate to the starter parts break down, it is with the starter mounting grp.
I cannot give a parts break down for the starter you have as these have a Mitsubishi starter.

Also the starters have a lip seal on the main armature shaft to keep the brushes etc dry of oil. If the bushings wear then the seals can leak into the starter body. A failed seal and/or boot at the solenoid and linkage area can leak oil too.

I feel I may have seen a cracked flywheel housing too on machines that have been treated a bit rough.
There are longish extensions from the F/wheel Hsg. out to the chassis that can flex if the mounting hardware has come loose one side or the chassis cracked around the equaliser bar saddle area.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Gasket for the 10 K is also a 4H7869. Doesn't matter where the machine is built the starter mount is an SAE standard.
Later starters don't use a gasket but they put rubber balls in the unused mounting flange holes.
