10K 9564 has developed a problem. It will go in reverse and back up in all three ranges and when shifted to forward will not pull correctly it acts like the clutches are slipping. The strainer has been cleaned and filter replaced. At idel pump pressure is 375. Torque converter temp is normal. This problem started abruptly while backing down hill. ๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•What are the specs on clutch pressure test?

Pump pressure should be 315 psi min, 350 +/- 10 psi max
Same pressure for speed clutch.
Direction clutch should be 55 +/- 8 psi less than speed clutch.

Hi Team,
suggest check operators platform mountings, seat mountings etc for tightness and the trans selector linkages for worn lever shafts/bushings in the trans case itself along with the correct adjustment and wear in the rose/ball joints of the rods.
If the platform etc is loose or slightly so it can move with the steep angle change and so alter the trans selector linkage adjustment positions causing what you see.
Personally know of a customers 769 truck that developed a loose platform, it downshifted itself (3rd to 1st) unexpectedly whilst going downhill and blew its engine from over speeding.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Thanks Old Magnet for the information. Upon further investigation while preparing to check pressures at the directional control I had the top off of the transmission and started the unit up I noticed it was spraying out oil in the right hand corner of the control valve while still in neautral also noticed oil needed to be changed it looked like black kerosene. This morning I did do a quick check I locked both brakes and was able stall the torque converter in all three ranges forward and reverse. When it comes up to running temperature I can no longer stall the torque converter in all three ranges forward and reverse. Iโ€™m going to change the fluid with TO4 30W and new filter and then proceed with pressure test.

Thanks Eddie B we have checked all the linkages, ball joints and adjustments appear to be ok.

Seems there is a problem with leakage on the #1 (forward) clutch.

sorry for squeezing in to this thread, but is it the same test procedure for a D6D?.....if so is the only test port needed located in the filter head on the engine?

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
