I have had my D6B for many years and this year the track on the left will not keep tight. It has the grease fiting type to tighten the tracks up and when I tighten up the track with the grease gun, 10 minutes later it is loose again.
I looked everwhere for grease leaking out but cant seem to find any.

Any ideas?😕

Thanks....

It,s leaking out the seal and going someplace so you,ll have to take it out and reseal the piston to correct it.

Dam, I was afraid of that.

Where is the seal and what involved in replacing it?
Remove the idler?
I lent my service manual to a freind and he moved away. WITH IT!
Any chance of a shot of that process from the service manual kicking around?

Thanks again for your quick reply.....😄

The greasse should go in coilspring if you do't see her near the greasse fitting

Pay close attention to the bore of the cyl. I have seen them pounded out part way down the bore and hold grease some places but leak back if adjusted farther out.
Later Bob

I have been hanging around this board for years but have not used my D6 much in the last few years but I just picked up a factory root rake last fall so I can start on 40 achres of alders and birch.

Let the fun begin.😉

Can you post the service manual pages again for the seal replacement.
And also 😮 how to split the track. Never done it before.

Thanks a lot, I will try to fix it with out any injury to my old girl or myself...😮

And I know we all like pictures here so here is a link to some of the work the old girl has done over the years.

Did you check your idler if he is on the end of track frame before changing the seal.

Gemdozer has a good point......where are you with track adjustment???

Do you have sealed or non-sealed tracks?

I am right at the end of the adjustment.
Now I am in trouble.
I will take some pictures of the running gear and get some numbers from the rails. I think it has D5 SALT chains and bolt on segments which I put on new (8 years ago!😮 ) but they are getting sharp on the ends.
Might be time for some new sneakers...
Thanks....

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
