Starter for pony motor stopped working. Trying to remove starter to see if it needs repair/replacement or possibly the problem is the magnetic switch (solenoid?). I have tried prying the starter from housing to the right (separated from starter by gap). Advice/suggestions will be appreciated. email: [email protected]. Yes I forgot to mention this. I did remove large bolt with tapered end. I think the mating surface is corroded. Should I try heating the receptor sleeve? I have made frequent applications with WD40 in the gap.

I've done a couple of these units for the D2. Take the bendix and pulley assembly off, then get out your gas axe and heat it, being as careful as you can to not heat up the starter body. It'll come loose. Once you get it off, sand both parts and apply plenty of anti-seize. Lock bolt can use some too.

Your better off with a more powerful loose juice, pb blaster,kroil oil, acetone/atf mixture

Heat and judicious tapping after you remove the belt drive housing to expose the nose of the starter.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

i had one that was stuck on a d6, i was able to use a set of chain vise grips and get it rotating in the housing a little bit, then i was able to work it out of the housing.

Does the starter do anything at all when you hit the button? I've had a couple that had stuck Bendix; removed starter; cleaned and lube was all that was required.
