My question pertains to replacing a hydraulic hose (s) on my D69U serial number 23122. It is equipped with Model 46, 66 GPM per the tag, serial number 25C9544. For some background I was down by the pond pushing out some stumps when a left side hydraulic hose sprung an impressive leak. I made it back to the shop and started to diagnose the problem. The outside of the two hoses had split. Taking the top hose assembly off was easy, a couple bolts and I was ready to work on the lower attachment. I was most disappointed with what I saw. Somehow if I were a contortionist I might be able to get a wrench on and remove where the hose attaches. Being I am not a contortionist, being it was 95F as it has been for several days, being it hasn’t rained since May 30, and being that I was ornery I did what any other person would do, I jumped on my working loader tractor and rolled dirt off stumps for the remainder of the afternoon and left the dozer sit. I looked at the hose again this afternoon and seeing it hadn’t fixed itself I thought I had best seek some expert advice.

1. What is the typical method for gaining access to the lower hose attachment area? Drop the pan? Can access be gained by loosening the hydraulic unit in front of the radiator?

2. The manual lists out hose lengths and specifies a 1" two wire braid hose and I think I might replace all 4 hoses while I'm at it. Just wondering if there might be a better option as this hose seems to have zero flex in it, although this could just be due to advanced age in the hose.

Thanks.
Bryan

According to the #46 Installation & Operation Instructions those lower hose to pipe connections were made before the hardnose was installed with the support bracket then being attached to the hardnose......so unless you can become a contortionist that's probably how it will have to get done. Might look into dropping the pipe assemblies and hoses together out the bottom after disconnecting from the #46 unit but I can't tell you for sure that will work.

To change a hose on my D6 9U with the #46 unit. I removed the pipe assembly from the HPU, bad idea!! After realizing that the hoses connected to the pipe assembly would not come out, I had to clean everything in place and re-assemble. Not a very easy thing to do lie-ing on your back under the machine. Those O-rings do not like to stay in place, and it is hard to hold the assembly in place and install those bolts blind.

If you remove the hose from the barbed end at the top ( leave the fitting on the cylinder easier to re-assemble something to push against). Remove the pan under the HPU. Using a long extention with a swivel and 9/16 socket remove the two bolts holding the hose fitting to the pipe assembly. Pull the hose out and replace. To re-install two people make it much faster but it can be done alone if you are ok with crawling in and out a few times. Dont forget to drain the oil from the tank and to have new o-rings for the plugs also. Not really a hard job to do but it is a pain in the behind, and the head also😈

Well, so much for that idea....thanks for the feed back. I'm curious as to what the hang up was to getting them out?
