There is no adjustement brake pinion you could use ATF oil in cluch housing and if it is't working you need to change the brake discs in cluch housing

Toby (Sasquatch on here) has a video on disassembly and tune up of the pony pinion clutch and brake.

Like Hector said, I have found that draining the old oil and refilling with any brand of ATF will make braking the pinion and engaging the gear without grinding a LOT easier! The thinner fluid causes less drag between the disks of the disengaged clutch and it's just not as slick as a motor oil, which helps the brake work better. Finally, you probably won't need to run the clutch adjusted as tight. I find that any discernable "snap" when your engaging the clutch is tight enough and it will turn the main engine just fine.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Thanks. I drained and refilled with Atf. Now just need a warmer day without rain to try it out.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
