Thank you edb. The change over looks pretty daunting. I hope this machine does not need clutch work, but I know all old Cats need work in some place or another. I hope to see the machine this week end. Grant.
At this time I don't think changing a dry to wet clutch is cost effective. It boils down to needing to change the top shaft in the transmission so the drive coupling all fits together. As well as all the parts of the clutch. Just look for a wet clutch or even go newer and a D6 C with power shift.
I have been seeing a D6 C and D6D power shift dozers in central Calif that have been advertised at $26,000 and $35,000 for well over 2 years. They say ready to work. Have no idea what they really are.
A wet clutch would be preferred for that type of work.
Well, I went and looked at it and it turns out to be a D4. The owner is not very familiar with Cats and confused the numbers. Oh Well, it was fun to look and the owner is a very nice guy so all is good.
