I recently bought a 9U D6 serial # 3836 and have a few question on it. First off I think that the winch for the dozer needs adjusting. It raises good but goes down very slow. It actuality goes down better when the winch is in gear but still is slow. Are there any instructions for adjusting it. Second is the lubrication. It calls for ball and roller lubricant. Will any good gun grease work for this or do I need something special? Next is the track roller lubricant. What is used on these? Last is just a question. My manual calls for a detergent oil for the engine. I changed it a put in 30W detergent oil. Any comments? All help is appreciated. Thanks.

#2 grease is fine for ball and roller bearings.
Rollers use "00" Track and Roller lube. Use in Volume Filler and don't over pressure or you may blow the seals out.
SAE 30 wt detergent is the correct engine oil.
#25 Cable Control Unit adjustments...

To Magnet and Garlic Pete, thanks much for the information. I appreciate any help from the members. I have been playing with Cats for some time but was never sure on the grease especially on the rollers and didn't want to goof something up. As for the cable unit I have a D7 and it works fine. I can see the dirt and stiff cable shives could be the problem as I don't think that this dozer has been used much. The pony motor hadn't been run in years but once I got the gas tank and lines cleaned it started. That's why I don't think it had been used much. I live in central Kansas so if anyone is close give me a holler. Thanks again

Thanks to all for the tips on the CCU. I tried lubricating the shivs good and working it up and down several times and even adjusted the unit. No matter what I did seemed to help. It just seemed to drag going down. I made up my mind the I was going to try my luck and tear into it and see what I could find. I took my time and as soon as I got to the discs I started see grease and dirt on them. The farther I got in, the worse they got. The inside 4 or 5 discs were almost completely coated with grease. and dirt. This is what was making it drag so hard coming down. The seal was leaking on the inside letting this happen. Cleaned everything good and went to Caterpillar and got the new seals for the unit. Put it back together and it works like a charm.Am going to try to post a couple pictures of the dirty discs and clutch

Question: I have been looking at 00 grease for the track rollers on my 9u D6 and have found some different ones. Can someone tell me which is best for this. I found EP-00 lithium grease on line and found Cenex has ML 326 grease locally. Both have the same NLGI #00. Or should I be looking at a different type. Appreciate any help and information. Thanks.

I think I would buy local if the price is attractive. I cannot make any judgment about the quality of the greases. The 00 grease available here is most commonly used in corn header gearboxes and has EP additives. I expect your area is similar.
