Back off the adjusters to pull the front idler back as far as possible. May take a torch to heat the "nut" (the part you put the wrench on screws back into the nut) if it hasn't been moved lately.

Push down with hydraulic blade if you have one and then work track back under rollers.

Every thing else depends on how the track is off, front to inside, front to outside, back off sprocket, but front still on..................what do you have?

On the clutch, check the oil in the booster unit under the seat. Then check the free travel in the steering clutch levers and the free travel in the brake pedals. It's likely you only need to adjust something.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

A quick addition to what ccjesey said. .get a couple of good sized buddies and heavy bars to help with putting the tracks back on. And WATCH the fingers. .it's easy to get 'em pinched or broken rasslin' those things around!!

Your description of the machine condition sounds a lot like the machine that was on ebay for some time.....Both tracks off, left steering not working, derailed last winter etc.
Is that the one???? Did appear to have oil clutch, has direct start and Balderson inside mounted blade.

Had a excavator drop a track off while working in the river just the other day, ended up pushing a track to it with the 17a and half pulled and lifted the diggers track back on. Found this to be the easiest and safest way, if that is you have another machine handy.

We just put a track back on the other day that came off a D4.
I would recommend the following.
-have lots of water, we were working in the extreme heat
-have another piece of machinery there to help lift, push, pull, we used another d4 with a blade. This is the key as the tracks get heavy and ackward when tring to get them back on. Also the bottom of the tracks were off as well so the working D4 was able to lift that side so we could move the track back in line with the rollers.
-Have several chains and long pry bars avaliable if needed.
-we used a rachet chain binder to compress the track spring as much as possible to asist in getting the track back on. it would be best if you could lossen the track adjusting nut, but we could not get it to turn so we improvised
- and last but not least have several people to help, for one it is easier with more hands and second if you get hurt someone will be there to take you to the hospitial haha.

I have a couple of pics, they are not very good but you get the idea.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
