Had a excavator drop a track off while working in the river just the other day, ended up pushing a track to it with the 17a and half pulled and lifted the diggers track back on. Found this to be the easiest and safest way, if that is you have another machine handy.
We just put a track back on the other day that came off a D4.
I would recommend the following.
-have lots of water, we were working in the extreme heat
-have another piece of machinery there to help lift, push, pull, we used another d4 with a blade. This is the key as the tracks get heavy and ackward when tring to get them back on. Also the bottom of the tracks were off as well so the working D4 was able to lift that side so we could move the track back in line with the rollers.
-Have several chains and long pry bars avaliable if needed.
-we used a rachet chain binder to compress the track spring as much as possible to asist in getting the track back on. it would be best if you could lossen the track adjusting nut, but we could not get it to turn so we improvised
- and last but not least have several people to help, for one it is easier with more hands and second if you get hurt someone will be there to take you to the hospitial haha.
I have a couple of pics, they are not very good but you get the idea.
