Cat produced 29,764 9U's. Many thousands of the #46 hydraulic control were produced and were used on the D6, D7 and D8's, for both Ag and Dozer applications.

If it's a front cable control, it would be a #24.

Not rare, lots of spare parts around if you need some, but getting to be fewer all the time with the price of scrap like it is.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

There were also some #44 hydraulic units mounted up on D6's. Not all that common but a genuine attachment option.

Found a picture of a D6-#44 unit as part of the 6R tool bar package. This might be more in line with the production number your thinking of.

many thousands of them, not rare at all.

The engine drive front mount 24 was favored for dozer operation because it operated faster than the rear mount #25 double drum, but the double drum could operate a towed scraper or the dozer. Later rear mount double drum designs were driven off the engine with a PTO shaft instead of off the transmission shaft like the 25.

The industry was slow to accept hydraulics, and cable controls were favored well into the 1950's on larger machines especially. Eventually hydraulic controls took over the market, but it took a while.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
