When I bought 25158 I I had a four speed with a reverse shift pattern, which indeed, it did. Not having run one before I thought it was unusual but it didn't trigger my suspicion. Once I had the manual of course it clearly states that the transmissions 5 speed standard pattern.
Hmmmm.
I searched and ran across a comment somewhere about frozen shifters and tucked it away. I finally got back to the D6 this week to change all the fluids and go though routing maintenance. Friday I cleaned out the mouse infected tool box and found a part that looked suspiciously like the shift housing keeper that I saw in the parts manual. I also realized after reading the parts and maintenance manuals that the shifter lever really should be moving right to left like a normal shifter. Mine didn't, instead the whole housing was moving right and left....
Saturday I took the floor out and looked and sure enough there was a thin sheet metal cover on the housing and the part I found did indeed fit. The shift lever was frozen in the housing.
A little judicious heat and WD40 with a small persuader freed it up. After a 1/2 hour of wiggling I had 5 speeds that work like they should :high5:

You might need a new boot on your shifter. Keeps water out if your machine sits outdoors. My 9U only had 1st. and 2nd. gear when I got it. Rust was the problem.

New boot and lever handles - just need find time to order them and go get them!
