I have a D6 9U (20365) that I’m changing the head gasket on. It was previously swapped to electric start but not for glow plugs. It was a farm machine so starting fluid was used to start it. I’m concerned about using starting fluid for the initial start after changing the head gasket. Is there anything I can do to start it without starting fluid?

A cylinder block heater for heating the cooling system would work wonders.

And a grid heater for the intake would also get it going quickly or in a pinch, remove the intake manifold and shine your MAPP gas torch in there to get it rolling - it will start very easily

Thanks for the info. I started working on the head and found a crack. Anyone have an extra head laying around?

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
