I have 2 D6 9u cats. I was looking for a parts cat and have come across a D6 8u going up for auction. I know nothing about the 8u model. Can you help me out by telling me what years the 8u was produced and can I switch parts over to the 9u. Undercarrage is the main concern along with dry clutch if that is what the 8u has in it. Unable to look at the 8u until auction day as it is a bit of a drive.

Thanks,

D7 Doug

D6 8 and 9U were produced from 1947 to 1959. The difference between them is the 8U is 60 inch gauge tracks; the 9U is 74 inch gauge tracks. I would expect the parts are interchangable. GWH

The track gauge is different. Track frame diagonal brace, final drive case extensions, final drive sprocket hubs and dead shaft's.

Also may want to check grouser width on the 8U....they are limited to 18 in. width.

All early build 8U and 9U had dry clutch later oil clutch after 9U13263 built in 1953 not sure of 8U change number also 1953 mine is 8U6925 and has oil clutch. Also believe later engines were slightly higher max RPM and a small power increase. Standard track and carrier rollers were fitted with a grease fitting many have been replaced with later sealed type units. Front idlers were spoked and later solid. I have one of each and certainly many parts are identical.
