Can anyone tell me where my final drive oil is going? I don’t see it leaking anywhere but it’s low after changing it

Top pinion seals are leaking oil into the steering clutch case. Have to remove steering clutches and seal and bearing cages for pinions.

Agree, it doesn't seem possible but there is enough oil on the pinion to be sucked into the steering clutch compartment by suction created by the rotation of the clutch. Had it happen on a D8H. Make sure your breathers are clean

First check the final drive breather tube, it exits to a breather in the rear end of the brake cover, these have been known to crack off inside the back end case, SLIGHTLY pressurise the final drive at the breather, remove the brake adjuster cover and see if any air is coming out.

Ok I think I know what you are talking abou. I did notice that when walking the machine fast oil will come out breather tubes. Is this normal? Thanks everyone for the input!

No its not normal, a couple of checks are required before tearing things apart to try and ascertain if its the breather tubes leaking/broken or by-passing the pinion seals, and if those breathers are blocked the final drive oil will be pushed through the pinion seals. We had a whole batch of D6C's in the mid '60's where we had to weld those tubes into the case though the top because they were welded inside the case and it was impossible for a welder to get all the way round from inside.

Ok great. What do I need to do? Take the brake adjuster cover off and look in there for the breather tubes?

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
