fOUND THIS IF IT HELPS

If my memory serves me correctly, a 1979 6R series D5 would be a European built D5B and if the track frames extend beyond the rad grille it should be a low ground pressure model with extra wide track frames, final drives and pads. Great machines for their intended use, but if it has spent its life trimming motorway banks, look out for final drive problems.
I'm sure that if anyone has better information, they will soon chime in.
Thanks for the replys! It has been used in a coal fired power plant. Just looking at the pictures it doesn't appear to have super wide pads, ie 36 inch. I'd guess 18 or 20 inch. Why would a European machine be imported to the US? Also would parts for US machines work on these? Price is right, condition OK, needs steering clutch work. Run away fast OR check it out a little closer?????? Thanks, Andy...
Listed as a D5 model LGP, 81" gauge 6R7xx is a 1974 model. Production ended at 6R1106 in 1978.
Lots of D5's built in France, I wouldn't let that stop you.
If last one built is #1106, not many around,(read salvage yards) unless US built machines would interchange. Does the 6r prefix indicate LGP ? Does the D indicate European build? I'll call Ohio Cat tomorrow and check on parts availability.😛hone: Thanks for all the input!!!!! Andy
Yes, the 6R designates a LGP machine.
"D" designation does not designate as being European
3306 engines in the European build are 49V designation, USA versions are 03N.
Interchanges would be with the 62J Direct Drive, 63J Power Shift, 68J Direct Drive. All after the change from D333C engines to 3306's 1972-up. A lot of parts interchange but not as high a build number as the USA versions. As old as it is it might be considered an orphan here now.
The standard gauge version was 12R serial number prefix, many bought the LGP version for stability rather than flotation and cut the pads down to reduce side stress on the chains, make them easier to clean out and reduce turning resistance. Most parts are interchangeable with the American built versions.
I show the D5-12Rxxx as being a LGP Direct Drive version at 81" gauge. (France)
A D5B-8MBxxx is a Powershift 60" gauge built in France but it is a later machine built 1984-85.
63Jxxxx 74" gauge PS built in France
62Jxxxx 74" gauge DD built in France
Be aware that the 3306 engine did not come in to production on these until about 1972.
Your right OM, 12R was the direct drive version, I remember refitting the whole back-end in 12R197, on site, on the M27 motorway at Southampton in 1973.
