D5 9M project

the d5 9m1 was built in 1939 ,so maybe a 7j d4 was the model used?

I can add a few tidbits but I have not attempted to make a D5 9M.

I believe the D5 uses the D6 pony motor so you are stuck with a D6 version flywheel housing. The main clutch is D4, not the D6 version.

The info I have on a later Airborne D6, sort of a later version of the D5 9M uses the D318 coupled to a D4 and the flywheel housing is unique to that application as I suspect is also true for the earlier D5....so I think you either have to have the correct housing or you will have to modify a D6 version to make it work. Just my 2 cents.....

If we are prepared to ask the D4 pony to crank the 6 cylinder 4600D engine, we could use a D4 flywheel housing (bellhousing), yes/no?

Well. I guess you can lash up anything that works but your going to be short 5 hp with the D4 pony and the pony clutch and pinion parts are different.

One of the few parts that are unique only to the 9M is the pony levers because the D6 lever wont fit in the D4 so the made specail levers for D5

we'll look at using a D4 pony and bellhousing... thanks for the input fellas.
