I have been looking for a while for a winch for my D4D. I have a possible line on a D4E winch. Anyone know if the D4E winch will work on my D4D. My D4D is direct drive if it makes a difference. I don't know what drive the D4E has.
Thanks in advance,
Roger

We just had a big discussion on that topic not long ago. The Hyster D4E winch has dual mounting bolt pattern and fits both the early D4's and the D4C's, D's and E's. Hyster D4D winch only fits the D4's. Hyster D4F winch only fits D4C's, D's, E's and F's.

I thought the D4C was the same bolt size and pattern as the older machines? Power shift D4E would require a different winch drive than a direct drive machine.

The D4C has the 7/8 bolting.
The D4F on a D4E powershift (and 955K) are equipped with an optional final drive disconnect clutch. The transmission design is such that the PTO shaft stops when the powershift lever is in Neutral and rotates in both directions at three different speeds depending on the gear selected. Powershift and direct drive use the same winch.

Thanks for the information guys. I am going to try to track the current owner down. I was told he is considering parting the machine out due to some other major issues.
