I have a D4D 83J1027 and I am looking at buying another dozer for parts. It is a D4D 83J3378. Looking at other topics on hear it appears to have a different engine. D330 AND NOT 3304 as i think other machine has but i do not need engine. I need transmission, torque and undercarriage. I plan on replacing entire track frame.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are correct in that your 83J1027 is a D330c and 83J3378 would have the 3304. The undercarriage t/c and trans should be the same. As it's later in the series it may well have a wet backend as well which would be a nice thing to have if yours hasn't got it already.

83J3378 is still a dry steering clutch.....don't believe the wet deck came in until the D4E's.

OM, the very late D's had the wet deck, but I don't know when the cutover was serial # wise. I used to own a late 47H ('77 build) the jap built equivalent of the 83J and it was wet.

Now that were are discussing it, I seem to recall having this conversation before. The highest s/n I have info on is 83J3485 and they are still dry but production didn't end until s/n4169 so could very well be. I'll have to go on the look out for a "to last built" parts manual to snag the info.
