How do you get to the second set of nuts holding segment two and three of the brake band together?

Pete got the first set of nuts out by fishing the band around and accessing them from the small rectangular cover on the back of the case. He can't get to the second set because if he moves the band all the way to the rear, the ears hit the steering clutch spring while the nuts are still on the bottom. When he moves the band all the way to the front, the nuts are still not accessible through the rear cover.

I'm tired of beating him without getting any results.

Thanks for any suggestions

The section with the ears has to go out the top after the brake anchor is removed.

Try a bigger bit a willow branch GM, obviously the one you are using to beat Pete with ain't big enough if the boy hasn't got it out yet, you know the deal by now, spare the rod, spoil the child!

It's 100F here today, reminded me of the night you locked me out of my room back in August after we had dinner together in Bakersfield, I was thinking I'd be sleeping with the dog there for awhile.
All the best

You jam as many washers as you can in the booster spring coils, jam the clutch levers right back with some blocks of wood then take the booster springs out, you can then roll the brake bands back to get at the nuts and take the front section with the ears out through the top, don't forget to tie a piece of string to the lower section and drag it round the drum to help putting the bands back in.

Wow that looks like a lot of painful bent over work to get the bands out !.
Nice Pete, but way too much wheelbase for me to work with in my area, interesting binder job, I think my state boys would bust my chops over that though.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
