A 21xx serial number would span 1972 - 1973 and have the 3304 engine.

The 3304 was fitted at S/N 82J2177. The D4D with a 3304 engine has a separate 78P**** engine number. Prior to 83J 2177, the engine model was the D330C, and the engine had the same S/N as the tractor. There are only slight differences in the appearance of the engine, between the 3304 and D330C, they are basically the same 4.75" bore engine.

Since the serial # for my Cat D4D is prior to 83J2177 the engine should be a
D330C. Where can I locate the serial # on the engine? How much is the horsepower for the D330C?

Thanks for the information!

The D4D was 65HP prior to S/N 83J1822 .. from 83J1822 onwards, they were upped to 75HP.

The engine S/N tag is on the LHS of the engine block (facing forward), at the rear upper corner of the block, adjoining the head gasket.
