I need to replace the sprockets on my D47U and was told Caterpillar once made sprocket rim adapters which take bolt on segments. Does anyone remember seeing anything like this or happen to know the part number for the adapter rim. I found the weld on sprocket rim but cannot find any reference to a weld on adapter rim in my parts book. Thanks. Tony.

They never made bolt on segment sprockets or rings for the early D4's.
Not until the D4H in the late 80's did they add bolt ons. Right pitch but different tooth count and different pitch diameter.

Thanks for the info Old Magnet. The weld on rims should out last me but the potential upgrade sounded too good to pass up.

I have asked the aftermarket dealers for a couple of years if there is no adaptor ring and segments available for the D4D/E and they tell me not, but then I have seen two machines advertised with this setup. Never seen them in person. Both machines were imported from the Netherlands as I understand it.

Interesting, nothing I have either in the undercarriage catalogs or D4D,E parts books indicates there is a segmented sprocket option.

Glum,
that's very interesting and well worth following up on. Perhaps it's a one-time change to fit a modified sprocket that accepts segments. Specs on both the sprocket and the segments (and possibly the chain) would be welcome information on ACMOC. Any chance you can get more information?

Thanks for the info Glum. Those sprockets could be the origin of the rumor I heard about bolt on segments. Tony.

Notice it's not segments but a whole bolton wheel.

Hi John, I thought I detected a line at the 10 o'clock position indicating a segment but my eyes could be deceiving me. Could be just a mark.

Neil,

You know what? I think you are correct. When I first saw this I thought what a great idea, just replace the whole wheel because it would all be worn the same anyway. Then on further thought, Oh Oh the whole thing has got to come apart to change the wheel. Not a good idea after all.

Thank you for noticing and responding.

Neil,
I did email the sellers asking if they could provide me with a bit more info, but never received a response and I never took it further than that. Does look to be segments to me too.
