Did you replace the rubber seals where the pumps set on the injection body? I do know that the original tapered o rings have been replaced with a fat round body o ring.

The so called tapered O Rings under the injection pumps start life as round fat O Rings--they squash to the tapered shape in time.

I did not replace the o-rings. Even still the diesel is starting now, when it wouldn't before.

I am wondering about these o-rings:

1. what are expected symptoms if they leak?
2. Can one use a standard o-ring, or it is some special thing only available from Caterpillar? anyone got a part number handy?

The O Rings are P/No 2A3307 and would be fuel resistant. Leakage would show externally around the seal location area in the Injection Pump body--more so when pressurised by the transfer pump, pressure when the main engine is shut off would be fuel tank head pressure.

Dimensions are :- 0.312" ID, cross section Dia. 0.188".

Dimensions as found in my old Cat O Ring Book, Form No :- 717-35238, Dated 1963.
