I put a electric direct start on the engine, works good but... Engine will not fire until it shows fuel pressure on the gauge. As soon as the gauge starts to move the engine will jump to life. With the pony engine this would not be noticeable , but with electric start it if very noticeable. Engine seems a little cold blooded too. It was 45 out and the engine turned over for 15 secs or so before it hits and runs, once its warm it starts with 2 turns of the crank. But the fuel pressure has to move the gauge for it to fire hot or cold. It will run down to 150 rpm and still hold 60 psi oil pressure so it good and tight, jumps right up to 1500rpm with a burst of smoke and then the exhaust is clean just like it should be. Everything else worked good, just seam a little slow starting when it is cold. Is this the standard for the d4400? Engine has new liners, valves and rings, pumps are good and the nozs have been set to 1650 psi and engine is in time and bleed. Thanks ....WA7OPY

Sounds just fine for a cold 4400, good job. A 4400 has a cackle all its own, there has been a 4400 on this farm since 1936. Dad did all the farming on this place with the old 4G till he got a 7U in the spring of ‘69.

Enjoy it!
