Looks like at a very minimum I'm going to have to pull the rocker shaft to get the push rod out . If everything looks good I'll put the push rod back and adjust all the valves. My book says if not running to adjust when the pushrod is at its lowest point. Seems like I've read on the forum to add 0.010 for cold adjustments. That would put it at a total of 0.020 for cold adjustment. Does this sound about right and would the valves need to be readjusted after running and warm. Any insight appreciated. Thanks

I would begin with the required clearances and if you are more comfortable add a few thousandths, but yes, run the clearances when the engine is up to operating temperatures. That is standard on most engines with adjustable valve lash. - cts

Thank you both for the information. So sounds like 0.012 is gonna be really close and should get me running. I will definitely be doing it again if and when I get it running.

Well its going to run but who knows when or how deep the rabbit hole gets

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
