Reply to Old Magnet:
Those numbers are good.
The 8B5755 inner element shows up in the 4R D6 (D4600) tractor. The D4 would normally be a 6B907. They both use the same filter housing and parts so I don't seen any reason why they would not work.
Why would you not want to convert to the advantage of full flow filtration??
Path of least resistance is the reason why I am not looking to convert. The filter I have now is a NAPA GLD 1165 and just sits in the filter housing so I am not sure what good it is doing. I have a spring plate missing-snap ring-and possibly the clamp on the bottom. As far as I can tell, these are the parts I am missing:
1. 6B5439 Spring, ( I think this is a piece of metal-not a coil spring).
2. 6B7279 Snap Ring
3. 6B9344 Retainer or Clamp-not sure
I can get (1) and (3) for sure.
Regarding inner element numbers my parts book form 9068 shows the T top and calls for a 6B907 element and a 6B1851 element assembly. Another parts book I have form 8480 dated March 1944 lists the element 8B5755, (purolator #24901), and the same outer assembly as shown. I opted for the earlier number due to the date of publication of Form 8480 relative to my tractor.
I see the advantage of the full flow. If I am correct the full flow came to existence because the filter technology advanced enough to pass enough oil while filtering o keep up with the flow demands of the Diesel.
I decided to reinspect the filter housing after reading a post on the full flow and my Servicemen's Reference. I decided to break it apart as I am pulling my injectors for inspection so the machine is down for a bit anyway. I am going to service the crankcase oil and flush the main at this point too. I did it when I first got my D4, but not properly I think. I have a belly pan on the tractor, so I do not foresee at this point cleaning the oil pump sump screen.
All that said-If I were able to obtain the dozen parts for the conversion-I would likely convert. I have a message into Machinery Trader-
Thanks for the response OM-I've been able to load the machine up over the past month or so. We are doing some work on our house and I had a professional excavator move about 500 yards of material and stockpile it and I pushed and spread it ready for seeding. My temperature gauge does not function, but I think I got it up to operating temperature.
