Im sure i've seen a thread about it on here before but i cant find it anywhere, Im wondering how long D4 track pads stayed the same as far as bolt pattern or pitch . An example of what im talking about is ... could a d4 7u pad bolt on to a d4d rail , or could it work the exact opposite to that ? Thanks

Pattern and pitch (6.75") stays the same but the bolt size changes. Can be 1/2", 9/16" & 5/8" bolting.

Kylerose - There is only one D4 track pitch - 6.75". However the track shoe bolt size changed 3 times - from 1/2" to 9/16" to 5/8".
The bolt pattern spacings are the same all through.

You can fit smaller bolt hole shoes to chains with larger bolt holes by drilling out the holes with a carbide, or maybe even a good cobalt drill.
However those shoes are hardened to 60RC and that drilling is slow going.
It would be possible to fit shoes with larger bolt holes to chains with smaller bolt holes, by utilising thin sleeves inserted in the shoe holes, but this would not be recommended due to inadequate bolt head grip.

Shoe widths range from the 13" width that was original fit to the RD-4, right through to the 30" shoes of the low-ground-pressure option on the D4D.

Regards, Ron.

Some have reported better drilling result using a "bridge reamer".

I have had very good luck with 3 or 4 flute core drills, drilling out a complete set of D7 pads without needing to have it resharpened before I finished.

Can anyone tell me if there's a modern track pad with the same spacing/pattern as was used on the Thirty. I need 1/2 a set of 16 inch grousers for my dads 30 project and have had no luck finding them. I will drill or make bushings if I need to.

Is there a chart of bolt patters for modern grousers ?

There's no modern pad which will interchange with the Thirty because the Thirty uses a square pattern for the bolts, and modern tractors use different width spacings for each row of bolts.

I'd say the best you could probably do is find some modern 16" pads, try them for general fit, and re-drill the bolt holes.

This will help, I can hope a can find a modern pad with at least 2 of the bolt holes line up

Thanks

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
