I'm in the process of rebuilding my starter unit. I see that it uses copper and steel discs. There are heat marks on all the plates. The copper ones are quite hard. Should I anneal them? (heat to red hot, then quench in water)

Never have attempted to anneal the plates. Think you'd have a problem with warpage. I'd be looking for new or good used replacements.

Thanks guys. I have cleaned up the discs and will try them as is. I suspect they were run without oil sometime in their 57 year life.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
