I have a D4 with Pony engine and am currently cleaning fuel system and checking mag so I can attempt to start for first time after D4 sitting for 4+ years. I need to fine sources to replace the current spark plugs [AC C86]. Also does AC work better than Autolite? Thank you for your reply.

Upon advise of others on this site and ACME I have had good luck with non-resistor NGK-A6 plugs and solid core wires. Look at NAPA.

The NGK A-6 is obsolete and is now known as NGK AB-6 and solid wire are the way to go. The magneto does not play well at all with resistance wire. You may have to go to a marina to buy solid wire.

The Champion plugs that are supplied by our Cat dealer have proved troublesome after a period of use.I get my plugs( NGK )from a boat yard now.No problems anymore.I guess the Champion plugs break down as Old Nuc says.

Champion used to be the high quality plug but that was a long time ago. Now if you want a good spark plug buy the NGK.

are both fine. Chances are, if you clean the plugs that are in it now. They'll work better than any you can buy new. As fas as the solid core wire, its still used on some performance and hotrods meaning our local auto parts store carries it. I run Autolites in my D2 pony motor with good success.

I have Champion UD-16 plugs in D2 3J which work ok...
I found Autolite 376 plugs on one CAT 212, and Autolite 386 plugs on the other CAT 212...
The local auto parts house says that the Autolite 376 plugs have been discontinued...but does carry the Autolite 386 plugs...
I put Autolite 386 plugs in the pony motor on the CAT 212 I'm workin' on and they work just fine...

Farmall wheel tractors and traclayers use the same plug for the ponys on cats so I just got a big box full of champion plugs from Steiner or napa auto parts. 😄

Searching for "NGK AB-6" at NAPA auto parts didn't turn up anything on their web site. Then I googled NGK AB-6 and found a bunch of listings for NGK 2910. Searching "NGK 2910" on NAPA brings up two items (same thing, different applications). A side menu has a vehicle type menu (mowers, snowmobiles, tractors/agriculture). Picking tractors brings up a menu for year which narrows the choice to one item listing 0.025" gap. Going in from a marine engine search gives the same part but shows a 0.030" gap. The parts are $1.99
