Hi,
I have a D4 S.N. 6U1600. One side of it was updated with lifetime oil less rollers. The new carrier roller is about 6.25" in diameter. The old carrier roller on the other side is about 4.75" in diameter and is flat spotted. I would like to replace it. I found the new style roller, but can I use the old stand? If I can what about the height of the stand since the new roller is bigger in diameter?
Thanks,
Steve

The later life-time carrier roller shafts do not fit the original stands without modification. Height of assembly is not a problem. Can also go to the later style clamp type stands.

Shim stand. I used to modify my top roller stands for life time rollers and then put two 1" flat pieces under them to get the rise I wanted. That helps to keep them turning when the track frame becomes full of mud etc..

Clean tracks at end of the day every day and ESPECIALLY in freezing weather.

The updated stand is approximately 3/4" shorter than the original stand.

The assortment of D4 stands I have vary from 11-1/4" to 12" from flange to center of shaft. The 1M8734 clamp type is 11-1/2". It's not the stands thaqt make the difference is the large diameter of the life-time lube roller.
Raises the track hump a little but not a problem.

What modifications do you have to do to the stand to put the life time roller on it?

The shaft hole in the stand needs to be bored out slightly, it's close but to tight to press. Also need to deal with the two dowel pins that anchor the inner hub of the later life time lube units.

Another option is to cut the top off the roller stand and weld on the appropriate adapter....available from www.hendersonmfg.com although they are a bit pricey.

The crude alternative is to split the head of the stand and weld/cobble the new shaft in place.
