I have a D4 7U and I was using it the other day and everything was working fine. I went to shift it and now I can't get it out of reverse. Is there a interlock mechanism that's hooked to the main clutch lever that holds the gear shifter in place when the clutch is engaged so it can't come out of gear? The shift lever is stuck in the reverse position and will not move. Did a pin fall out or did something break in the linkage or what would be wrong? What does a person have to do in order to get to the linkage and what kind of job is it?

So the first thing to do is pull off the air cleaner and remove the top cover and see if the rod is hooked up? If the pin fell out, can a person fish it out with a magnet? If that's not the problem, what's next? It's not stuck in 2 gears. I can back up with it fine. The shifter is just stuck in reverse is all and I can't shift it.

I didn't go back to re-read the thread but if it is a similar situation, then I would check to see if it is a pin fell out issue. You "may" be able to fish the pin out depending on how well you can see down in there. Maybe in the interest of getting it out of gear, you maybe able to stick a substitute pin in there without fishing the original out.

I got the D4 fixed. I removed the cover under the air cleaner and the cotter pin was missing and the linkage was unhooked. I hooked it back up and back in business. Thanks for the tips.
