I have a 1942 Cat D4 which seems to be loosing it's pushing power. Just wondering if there isa way to adjust the clutch and maby not have to replace it. The drive clutch lever does not stay in place anymore. It will move if I hold the lever back but it will not push as it once did. Any help on this would be appreciated.😮
Hi Digdeep,
welcome to the BB, this should help you,

Adjusting the clutch on a D4 is actually kind of a nasty job. I just tightened the clutch on my HT4 Traxcavator last Saturday. It is very difficult to access that nut. I used to have a tool that was a bar woth an L shaped handle with a 3/4 socket and universal on the end. This made it easy but I lost it. It is hard to get that nut in position to get a socket on it, it really takes a universal. If you want to go underneath there is a plate under there where you can get at it but then you have to crawl out and adjust the clutch from above and go back underneath to tighten the nut. Good luck, if you ride the clutch much you will have to do it often but you will never wear it out. I have to tighten the clutch on a D8 this weekend, I expect it to be a lot easier.
