I've had overheating problems on my D4 so I finally broke down and pulled radiator and took it apart, yuck. It was plugged up. I contacted White Tractor in Missouri because they have helped me on hard to find parts, front idler upgrade and a few other things. They guy told me he would get me a 3 inch core. He said I had the 2 1/4 core. He was right. My grandpa replaced this when I was about 12, 1980, and he had trouble during the summer months with it running hot. I bolted in the new core, which had an extra row of tubes, and finally got to work it today. Cleaned out 1 1/2 miles of fence row pushing small trees and leveling up. The temp gauge never got any further than 3/4 in the normal range. Wow, the core I pulled out had the correct Cat part number but it never cooled right. It wasn't big enough. Grandpa would be proud.

Hi shelby,
good to hear you got the correct core to fix your problem.
At The Dealer once I had a used imported, from England, gen set that overheated on 100F + days.
Checked everything including Cat part no tag on the core and it APPEARED to have the correct core fitted.
After many $$$$'s testing a tube and fin count said otherwise !!!
I found a radiaror Co tag hidden on the core and the penny droped as to a possible incorect core with the correct P/No.
So we need to be careful of what is actually fitted by tube and fin count not just P/No tag say so.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

It was 95 degrees yesterday and it never once got warm. I wonder how many more of these old cats this happened to.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
