It takes 7 tools to pull and reinstall precup.

Is explained in servicemans book for your engine.

That's not much information to go by but if it has glow plug chambers it take this splined socket to remove the ring.

Thanks Old Magnet. The three numbers must be three different sizes of sockets? I see the 8s2243 can be bought several places. Thanks again, good information.

why they change part numbers i dont know. maybe it so someone in head office can justify their continued existence.

yeah if the material changes or the dimensions change fair enough.

maybe its becuase the supplier changed. many cat tools used to be made by proto.

instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality

Hi Team,

over the years Cat used this size spline drive socket in many applications and the shape and metallurgy changed as needed, a modern drive will still work in early applications but an early drive may fail or not fit later applications--note the reduced outer section on the pictured socket above.

Cheers,

Eddie B.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
