D4 7U from latin america?

The VIN plate on the block looks like its originally from latin america? Or is this just a generic serial tag? Need a bit of pro help. See attached. It looks like it mentions CHILE, and Mexico Registrada. There is no tag on the back left of the CAT per manual as one would expect. The 1953 D4 was bought by my grandpa back in the late 70ies in Yamhill, Oregon USA

A lot of people get fooled by that. It's just the trade mark that is registered elsewhere than the USA. Still a USA built machine.
Look for a sign of rivet holes on the left rear housing. Scratch around in the paint at that location, s/n should be stamped into the housing.
