With main engine running at idle and at normal operating the exhaust smokes blue smoke. If I pick up the idle to what I would say is a fast idle the smoking stops. If I go from idle to full throttle the blue smoke is pushed out of the exhaust followed by a puff of white smoke then clean from there. I cleaned main crankcase breather and washed and cleaned the main air cleaner and refilled with oil. What do you think? something to worry about? Thanks.

When was the last time it was worked hard? Most of these older tractors don't like sitting around idleing for very long.

If it has allot of hours on it which most did, its probably time for rings and sleeves.

Thanks for suggestions you gave on the 7U. I have not given the tractor a hard days work yet. I did use it to make sure that everything was in an operational condition before I started working on it and spending the money to bring it up to speed. Needed a lot of small things done. Mag rebuilt on pony, idler yoke spacers put in, oil and filter changed, fuel filters changed and fluids topped off and filled with fresh fuel. Its ready for the field after being idle for about 15 years.

The hours on this tractor is an unknown. The hour meter is unreadable. So rings may be why the smoke. Will know more once it is put to work. It has rear hydraulics with quick couplers and looking at the drawbar hitch you can see that the tractor was used to pull a scraper. The hole on the draw bar is "egged" out pretty good. Its done some hard work at some time. It is one that has the Ag. toolbar frame also. I did notice there is no blow-by from the breather when I used it.

It will work for me for what I bought it for as is. Thanks for your comments. Its nice to talk with people who have been
there and done that.

Yes I did change the oil in the pump. Used 30W regular motor oil for fillup. I also remover the inspection plate from the pump and sprayed the lifters with a light penetrating oil while turning the engine over by hand. After it set a while I then sprayed the lifters with some engine fogging oil. Cold weather will be here soon so my time will be limited as to how much use the tractor gets if any at all until spring.

Put it to work, if it doesn't use much oil and runs well with no excess crankcase pressure, leave well enough alone. it could be just a little corrosion on the liners and rings after sitting so long.

Agreed, put it to work a few days and change the oil & filter again, then another fifty hours and do again, it will clean the engine and remove carbon from rings.

Sometimes diesel can leak into the crankcase and dilute the engine oil. There is an "O" ring at the end of the injector housing that can leak diesel fuel into the crankcase if it becomes cracked or disintegrates. You cannot see it without taking off the injector.
Keep a close eye on the engine oil for any signs of fuel in it. Hopefully you just need to make it work hard as that often makes a big difference.

Good luck!

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
