this is somewhat of a continuation of the recent clutch post. I was skidding
some logs ,ignoring a strange noise for a half hour, then all of a sudden I had
no clutch engagement. Turns out that all the fibre disc teeth sheared off.
everything else looks fine.
Has anyone actually obtained the disc from Steeringclutch.com? And if so,
does the quality look good. I'm trying to determine why theirs is $75 and
Cats is $400(From what I've heard)

My spare clutch has a steel tooth segment with fibre discs rivited on(appears
to have been the case, the fibre element is completly gone with a .25" plate
wear) Anyone have an idea where this style came from?

I just got through installing a steeringclutch.com disc in place of a chewed up Cat version. Quality appeared excellent and so far so good but I have only used it a couple of times ( D4 dozer/winch tractor). The earlier discs (before 7U 21xx) were a disc assembly with friction faces attached to a steel plate. I think I would consider the earlier versions to be a better unit if you can get them refaced or find one in good condition.

From what I hear the Cat unit is now closer to $500 and our local dealer was almost embarrassed to quote and tipped the buyer off to a $100+ source.

Thanks OM for the input. I'll try the steering clutch disc also.
