I recently traded for a D4 7U23588 with a #44 hydraulic system with one valve. The previous owner told me the hydraulics quit lifting the blade a while back and they parked it. We chained up the blade to haul it home.

The rams will move back and forth a bit to take up the slack from the worn out linkage but not budge the blade. When I lift the blade with a hi-lift jack and then lower it there is no holding power in the rams.

There is a diverter valve in the splitter box on the fender where the lines divert to the ram on the off side. It looks like that lever is for rear hydraulic options. When I switch that lever the blade still falls with no resistance from the rams.

This seems to me like worn out seals in the rams and not any problem in the 44 unit. Any ideas on this?

Any one know where to get a seal kit for the rams?

Hold you hand on the ram and move the lever to raise the the blade,you will feel it warming up fast if oil is leaking past the packing.Always start at the beginning,is there oil in the tank,is the pump drive stripped?I have seen worn hydraulics but it will make things move when the oil is cold.Good luck.

When it comes to parts you need to have the blade s/n on hand or at least identify the hydraulic cylinders. A 3Fxxxx number on the cylinder is the early style, a 8Fxxxx number is the later version.

Thank you guys, I will get a chance to fire it up Tuesday to see if the rams heat up and will jot down the serial #s on the rams.
