So my D4 7J needs a new clutch collar, brass shavings everywhere inside and I got a 10’ disk that my D2 won’t pull well. Can you change the collar without pulling the engine? I know to change out the clutch you need to. But I need to do just the collar.

What kind of disk do you have? I had a 13' RWA John Deere disk that I pulled with my 5UD2 in 4th gear. You must have a big disked offset disk.

remember discks are sized by the number off plates(discs) yes disc size makes a difference but not as much as the shear number of them.

10’ offset with 18” blades, my D2 5J struggles with an 8’ offset. We don’t plow and don’t use a tandem. We use heavy offset disks One pass breaks and cuts in whatever I need it to.

No if I barely had the disk cutting I’d pull it with my farmall H. I need to cut fire breaks every year here.

I was able to change the clutch collar on an early 7U through small top cover. I got it from a 5T parts tractor. Everything was the same.

Used to pull 6' 9" disc with D2. Pulled 10' 6" offset with D4 but a little much in the hills. 9' 0" is about right but had to find anymore.

Was hoping the collar could be changed through top access hole, thank you. This disk is all both my D2 can handle and this is the setting I have it and yes the disk is beat.

The pictures explain why the D2 would not pull it. I don't think my D2 would pull it either. Thanks for clearing that up.

Il bet if you closed it up some more and chained it that D2 would pull it and it would still chop up the ground pretty good.

My D2 pull the disk in the second picture as is, the first picture with the TD6 is the 10’ disk I’ll need the D4 for.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
