Our customer has purchased a partly dismantled D4 - 6U with the fuel injection pump and accessory drive removed from the engine and would like the procedure to time the accessory drive to the gear train.
He understands there is an offset tang on the front of the injection pump that engages with the rear of the accessory drive.
Just needs the procedure to time the accessory drive.

Is there timing marks on this gear?
Is the gear keyed to the shaft?

Thank You
Peter

Does this engine have a balancer? (6U-9807-up)

For the non-balancer:
All gears have timing marks
All but the accessory drive idler have keyed shafts.

Start by:

1. Align the crankshaft gear mark with the large camshaft gear mark.
2. The idler drive gear is fixed to the cam gear.
3. The idler gear is a roving gear with an odd number of teeth.
4. Rotate the accessory drive gear until the idler will slip on and the timing marks (two) match.

Thankyou you for the information so far it is very much appreciated.

The engine does have a balancer. From your comments the information you have supplied is for a Non Balancer engine arrangement. Is this correct?

This is a 13 year old thread, a lot has changed. Back then their free photo scaring site that now charge for their services, and owner of diagrams may not what to pay. Also each member here only had so much space for pictures on the board. So old pictures were taken down to add new. Today many more pictures can be put up, but nobody goes back and cleans up situations like this. So if nobody comes forward with new diagrams start a new thread and ask again.
