I sheared off a couple of the bolts holding the yoke to the carriages. If I can't get them out where would be a good place to start looking for replacement carriages?

Thanks,

Took oxy/acetylene to get the master pin loose and 18 pounds to beat it out. Whew!

One bolt drilled and hole cleaned up, two to go.

I am so glad I got it out of the mud hole it broke down in!

Got all the sheared off bolts drilled out and the holes cleaned up perfectly with a tap. Reassembled the yoke and idler today. Need a new master pin and bushing then it's off to the races before the snow starts or the ground freezes up. It's been a couple nice days in the woods here. Lotsa turkey, deer and bear. The mushrooms are popping up like mad too.

Better check the wear on the idler bearing blocks and frame wear strips or it may happen again if the yoke is being placed in a bind.

I was able to tighten up the wear blocks by removing the shims. The idler axle is tight in the bearings which are also good. Hoping this doesn't happen again. Replaced the bolts on the other side as a preventive measure.

Jon---what do you think caused this? did you hit something with front of the track, or maybe turning and hit something? also the track had a master pin and not a z bolted track link?

Those shims are just for aligning the idler, they don't do anything for vertical movement due to wear.

I was moving piles of sheared stumps which are taller than the Cat. I must have gotten one wedged in between the frame and track as I was diving in and out of the piles.

I knew there was already one bolt sheared and the track on that side was much looser than I ever run it. Oops. So one learns. Replace missing bolts and don't run with a floppy track.

I removed the shims to tighten the carriage onto the rail so it would be less likely to cock. The wear strips are very worn but this helped a bit at least.

I WISH this track had a master link. I would have been able to do the job single-handed that way. I needed a someone to hold the drift to hit it with the sledge. "When I nod my head you hit it!"
