Of all the years I rebuilt engines you know I can,t ever remember housings cracking like that. I,m only taking a crazy wild guess but I,m wondering if something got between the teeth of the flywheel or pinion gear and caused a real hard force against the housing as it turned.Check the bore in the bell housing and see if it,s worn letting the starting clutch end housing there jump around when it,s turning.
I notice there are two different housing numbers used....3B6402 on the early 9U's and 1V's and 6F515 on the later 9U's and 1V469-up. I don't know what the difference is but might have something to do with breakage.
Hello again, the casting number in the clutch-housing is 6F857.
I s this also the part number ?
I cannot fint this in the partsbook.
Another guy had also a housing and thats also cracked !!!!!😕
That is three ,

I just looked at one which has the number 6F857E cast into it but all the parts books i have show it as 6f515... oh and mine seems ok no cracks
Checked mine also...it has the 6F857 casting number and no cracks.
Came off a well abused 8U8349.
I don't recall cracked housings as being and issue until now.
Just noticed the earlier 3B6402 housing has the threaded pipe plug on top where the 6F515 has the two bolt cover. That may be the only difference.
The housing 6f515 in my microfich refer 6f857 and I should have some on racking.
Here, this shows that 6F0857 was replaced by 6F0515

Save the link it's a great reference when trying to find part numbers.
Great source....sometimes...but they didn't get this one right.
The 6F857 is the casting number for the part number 6F515.
