Picked up this generator last year and got it going this week. I've cleaned a lot of mice debris over the years out of equipment, but this one wins the award !!!

Rebuilt mag and carb, pony runs great. Diesel had me stumped until I found out the safety shutoff on the left of the pump had frozen stuck, keeping the rack set to off. I'm not use to that on the D4's

Questions

Can anyone tell me the year? S/N is 4V1172

Current the voltage is 460V on T1, T2, T3 - Can I reconfigure for single phase 3 wire as described in the book? The data plate on the electric set shows only a connection diagram of T1/T2/T3. I don't want to blow it up !!

Was there a factory muffler or raintrap on the exhaust ?

Thanks

I think you're out of luck on the single phase 3 wire 120/240. That zig-zag connection is only possible on a 120/240 3 phase generator or at least it will result in 240/480 single phase 3 wire.

Best you can do with that one is to set it up for 240 volts (if that is even possible..........follow the output wires back into the generator connection box and see if you find 10 leads there that are spliced onto the 4 big ones that come out of the cabinet..) When set up for 240 volts, you will be able to pull 120 amps on 2 leads. When measuring voltage to the neutral, you will find that voltage at 139! If you need 120 volts, you can probably turn the voltage setting down and get 120/208 or you might want to stop at 127/220 which will not be too high on the "120" stuff and closer to 240 on the heavy circuits.

Or you can feed either 480 or 240 into a transformer with a center tapped secondary to get 120/240 three wire out.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Thanks for the help. I think I'll just wire it 208V 3 Phase and put a panel on it. I want to be able to power some light towers at shows and can split them up between the 3 legs.

Does anyone have an idea of the year? S/N is 4V1172

"Does anyone have an idea of the year? S/N is 4V1172?"

Kent Bates can answer that question.

My chart is messed up but I'd guess it to be either 1955 or 1956.
