Previously I posted that I was looking for engine bearings for a D2 5U, D311 engine bearings. As I was warned they are non existent. I have been working with Mike at Foley Cat (1-620-792-5246) and here is where we stand.
The rod bearings 4H3027 are still a current part number offered through Cat, so Clevite can't make those (legal issue). Mike was able to find a set for me @ $167 / pc, ouch. The main bearings are discontinued as previously mentioned, so Clevite can make those. I have a set being made at 0.030" under. Here are the numbers and prices; 5F1077 Front Main $86, 5F1078 (2pc req) $22 / pc, 5F1079 Center $93, 5F1080 Rear main $22. I sure wish that I could get them all made when I compare the prices from Clevite vs Cat. By the way Clevite is / was the orignal manufacture of the bearings for Cat, as I understand it anyway. The lead time are long for having them made, 90 to 120 days, but better than none at all. Hope this helps.

I can,t remember them using the Clevites but the Federal Mogul bearings were quite common that I recall.

tractorparts.com is one of the dealers that I called and they did come close. Their inventory changes constantly. They said they had the numbers but when they went to fill the order, the pieces had been sold.

All of the dealers I talked to seemed to have one or two of the bearings used or NOS. Not a single one had a set of either rod or main complete when they went to look. Not a single one actually had the center main/thrust insert. Bear in mind we're talking .030 undersize here on all bearings.

I don't mean to call down rain for your parade. I very much appreciate any and all help that has come up against this supply problem. I simply am trying to illustrate the scarcity of these parts and how quickly they are grabbed up when they appear. Yes, Cat has rod bearings still and yes, they are still pricey. If you buy the pricey rod inserts and the reasonable main inserts, the final tab for a complete lower end rebuild isn't really out of reach.

Not all D2's are tractor show beauties. There's a bunch of them out there still pulling and requiring repairs. Their owners cherish them more than they do their wives. They've seen the imported alternative machines.

So, thanks for your input.

Called them yesterday. Parts show up in their interchange, but no parts. They directed me to another place, same result. I appriciate all help, but staying with the current plan to have them made. With luck she will be up and running in the spring. I wanted to give an option to anybody looking, since Clevite is going to making them for me, it would be an opertunity to get in on a set.
