I have searched all the forums on track pins. but still have some questions. For the last two days we have been trying to get the link pin out of my d2 tracks. It is the type of pin that has taper plugs in either side with 3/8-24 thread. Were able to pull the out side one with a home built slide hammer and heat. the inside one is not moveing we have pulled the thread off our slide hammer bolt a couple different times. the Pin appears to have slots cut in about a 1 1/2 on both ends where the taper plugs go and they expand the pin holding it in place. My question is can we knok the pin thu with the other sides taper pin still in. it seems to have moved in that direction about a 1/8 inch. I just want to know if anyone has done that ,cause i am useing and big hammer and dont want to try anymore if it stops half way.

Yes you should be able to knock it out. The master pin is solid in the middle and if you use a drift that bottoms in the pin and a big hammer you should get it out. When you put things back together put some anti-seize on the plugs before you install them.

We had the same problem.
Used a press and put 30 tons pressure on the pin and it wouldn't budge.
Kept the pressure on and heated it with a torch until it was red then it finally broke lose with a bang and came out.

well I got it out this morning , with a 2x4 and 3inch square block of steel 18inchs long for a back up weight and a 14pound slegde hammer.
the front roller on the tractor was sloppy with 1/2 play . took it apart and went down to cat dealer and ordered a new axle shaft and bronze bushing . 180$ for shaft and 45$ for bushing. I am going to use old track pin when i put track back on, its in good shape.
