I used kerosene to clean my steering clutches out---pull plugs and drain any oil and water out---replace plugs and fill about 1/2 way with kerosene and then run machine back and forth---I did use a pressure garden sprayer with kero to dislodge the heavier crud
Thank u for the information. Did a lot of the crud come out when u did that?
will solvent maybe work....been thinking about washing mine..
If you're contemplating a solvent, use a non-water based solvent like kero or mineral spirits.
will kerosene unstick steering clutches
If you soak them for a year or so while tying the levers back to take the pressure off the clamps and driving it once in a while hitched to a heavy load.
It all comes down to how stuck are they? Those are a fiber disk that absorbs water and swells, then rusts the driven steel plate. If it isn't too bad, they will unstick but if it has sat a long time(like more than a couple of years) then chances are good that it is totally seized in there and you will be taking it apart.
Sorry, there is no easy answer to that question!
Thank u for the advice and I'll try that. I wanted to ask drujinin what about if the steering clutch is stuck open what does that mean?
