Hello all I, have a D2 5U14-- wide track that has broken flanges on three of the original internal track rollers. All the rollers are well used. I understand because there are no new rollers out there that the fix is to replace all eight rollers with D3 rollers and a spacer on the rail to make up for the smaller Dia. of the D3. I am using the D2 with a blade to keep fire trails clear and other small projects around the ranch. Not a lot of use but important for what it does. Have owned it for about 25 years and try to keep it in good running order (no duck tap or bailing wire). Suggestions on this project? references to other posts for information? CHEERS!!πŸ˜‰

Have you tried all the used Cat parts dealers to find some used ones? they also show up on ebay at times--i bought a couple of aftermarket ones from an outfit called XXSmith out in California

I believe F P Smith has new ones but I made the spacer bar and used the sealed D3 rollers and built them up with 1 pass of 7018

Note in the first pic the roller on the right is original D2, the ones on the left---on the spacer bar are D3

One thing to change is you need to move the back roller forward for sprocket clearance as the D2 rollers are hollow in the center, the D3 rollers are not

I know you stated that you didn't mind keeping it in Tip-Top shape but used ones show up in the For Sale section occasionally when someone is parting out.
Like the R2 in PA a few days ago.
They can be reconditioned based on the CAT Bulletins stored in the Folder on the Forum Main page.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have now located some used rollers and also asked for a quote from the local Cat shop (Peterson Equip. Santa Rosa CA) to do the conversion (Probably have to sell the first born to do that). Is there much of a problem running with rollers with different amounts of wear?

You definitely want rollers with matching diameters (same amounts of wear) to keep the pressure equal amongst all of them. A mix of rollers with different amounts of wear will cause the larger diameter ones to take the majority of pressure causing accelerated wear or breakage, especially on hard flat surfaces where they'll likely keep the smaller diameter rollers from fully contacting the rails.

remember if you are reconditioning it can cost you a motza as well. Cat bushes and seals and not cheap (I was quoted 57 and 230 each x 2 for each roller x 😎and usually the shaft will be out of round and the outers in need of welding - all of which takes time and money. I've done both and if you are not precious about originality and intend to use the machine regularily, I would go the D3 route which should mean the parts are available for longer and be cheaper too.
