Just wondering what oil Cat recommend running in the pto of a D2.
I'm assuming it's a sealed unit independent of the Final Drive,is that correct?

Cat says Crankcase oil or 30W. You could use a 50W gear oil if in warm climate. Yes it is separate from trans. and finals. Fill/level plug is on the lower right hand side.

Your welcome. There is a seal on the input shaft on the pto that is probably bad. Back the tractor up on some blocks to raise the back end to keep the transmission oil from running out when you remove the pto to fix the seal.

Ok.So does that mean that the PTO's oil may have escaped into the Trans?
The oil that came out when I drained it had the same redish brown colour as the oil in Finals.

Yes. The pto oil is separate from the final drive oil, housings are separate from trans. case, they might have used the same oil.

Ok so before I remove the PTO I want on hand the appropriate seals. So my book shows seal 2B1869.
I assume there is a seal on the (4B9569 shaft Assem) where it enters the trans.
Does anyone have a number for that seal.? I cant find a break down of that area of the tractor in the literature I Have on hand.
Thanks

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
