First want to thank all of you that gave me info on how to get the flywheel off and replace the seal. I inspected the crank for a groove but it seemed o.k. except for a small slightly rough spot about 3/4 of an inch long, o. k. to go? Someone posted about shims to put on under the seal, I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Not a shim. It's a very thin stainless steel sleeve that you press on to replace the seal wear area. See your local bearing supply house. Instructions for installation will come with the sleeve. Part # is SS99175.

OM, do you think they were talking about a thin shim to have the seal not go in so far so it would sit in a different spot than the worn groove? Instead of putting on a new wear sleeve like a person should. Just a thought!!!

May be but for $20 to get the right sleeve I'm not going to try to cobble things up with a shim.

Thanks Old Magnet and 1951 D2 for the help and part number. I don't have a torque wrench to put the nut back on but a prior post said it should be 160 lbs. I'm thinking that will a pretty hard pull on my socket wrench? Any advice on this.
