Did cat ever make an hydraulic system for the D2? The system that is on my newly acquired 1938 D2 looks like it was made by Rube Goldberg. Massy Ferguson belt driven pump, water pipe and an obviously home built reservoir tank. It seems to work just fine but is scary looking. I would like to replace the system with a cat system if such an item exists.

Cat offered the #44 pump option to fit the J series D2's but good luck in finding all the necessary parts.

The La-Plante Choate aftermarket system which would be about right for your year of tractor actually had a steel welded tank (some round, some rectangle), rear mounted Bee-Gee pump and schedule 80 galvanized pipe. So your Rube Goldberg may not be that far out of line. A belt driven pump means you have "live power" which means when you are playing in the dirt, you can raise the blade while stopped.
Is it a 3J or a 5J?
Let everyone know as someone maybe has what you want.

That looks like a decent farm tractor! They usually have better undercarriages on them because Farm work is not as rough on them as if they were Dozer tractors. 👍

Yes I think they farmed blackberries with it. 😆 So as not to hijack this thread, I started my own thread showing where it rested for 20 odd years and more pics. 😛op2:

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
